ACCOUNTS PAYABLE: How the County Pays It's Bills

Have you ever wondered what happens after the county receives a bill?

The process involves several steps and multiple offices working together to ensure bills are paid accurately, on time, and in accordance with the county budget. From the moment a bill is received until a check is issued, there are reviews, approvals, and safeguards in place every step of the way.

This process is a great example of the checks and balances built into local government. No single person controls the entire process. Instead, the Clerk's Office, officeholders, County Commission, and Treasurer each play an important role in protecting taxpayer dollars through accountability, transparency, and accuracy.

The graphic below follows the path a bill takes from budget approval to payment and shows how multiple layers of review help ensure county finances are handled responsibly.
